The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families supports children and their families through innovative therapeutic practice and research, training and promoting awareness of mental health issues. In April 2019, the Centre opened its new Centre of Excellence located in King’s Cross.
We would welcome and encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates to ensure that the Early Years team is representative of the communities that it serves and that the Early Years Programme speaks to their diverse needs, cultures and contexts.
The Early Years Programme is a nationally and internationally renowned area of work at the Centre, focusing on innovative and specialist psychotherapeutic approaches for families with babies and pre-school children in universal, targeted and specialist areas of work.
The Therapist and Trainer post in the Early Years team will support our work related to Looked After Children and their Birth Parents, including our First Steps project (a collaboration with Pause to provide a mentalisation-based group treatment for women who have experienced recurrent removal of children from their care) and our National Adoption Therapy Service. The successful candidate will be an experienced Psychologist or Psychotherapist with clinical expertise in the parent-child relationship and experience in mentalisation-based treatment approaches.
The post-holder will be home-based, both due to the virtual nature of the projects and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; thereafter at Anna Freud Centre, 4-8 Rodney Street, London N1 9JH. In the future, once social distancing measures are lifted, there will be the possibility of carrying out direct clinical work and attending team meetings in person at the Centre.
