Closed Public Event

Release and Restoration post far right Islamophobia

Date: Thursday 29th August 2024
Time: 6.30pm to 8.30pm
Venue: Online via Zoom

Outline

Open to all member and non-member BPOC counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists who identify as Muslim practising and non practising.

The BAATN Midlands team, in collaboration with Stephen Maynard and Nafeesa Javed, are providing a space for BPOC Therapists and students who identify as Muslim, practising and non-practising, who feel impacted by the recent far-right Islamophobic, anti-refugee and racist disorder. The space is intended to allow practitioners to be with and share what they are experiencing, reflect upon their role as caregivers and seek support amongst peers. It is not intended to be a political debate space.

BAATN is urging employers and educators to stand firm against racism and discrimination in light of widespread far-right civil unrest across the UK, and support employees, staff and students who are concerned for their physical and psychological safety and wellbeing.

The therapeutic and counselling professions should unite and stand together, adopting a flexible and supportive approach to arrangements where employees, staff and students are concerned about unrest near their place of work or study and even their homes.

This space is offered by the BAATN Midlands team – Ian Thompson & Vedia Maharaj.
