Closed Practitioner Event
On Growing up a Multi-Heritage Child: A Reflective and Creative Exploration
Date: Saturday 5th July 2025
Time: 10am – 4pm
Venue: The Wheatley workshop room at The Engine Room, Tottenham Hale, London, N17 9FU
Outline
This workshop will offer a safe and supportive space to explore BIPOC multi-heritage identities, gaining greater insight into the impact of our young experience, in the varied environments we grew up in. We will explore how significant others and wider cultures responded to us as a multi-heritage child, looking at the nuances of these responses. Internal and external oppression will be included and questioned in this vital area, to support anti-racist practice and inclusion.
Reflections on how our adult selves relate to our inner child will be facilitated. Pair work, small group exercises and large group sharing will form part of our journey. Creative means such as poetry, visualisations, drawings and a closing ritual will be used. The workshop will invite you to connect deeply with your multi-heritage identities, and through this lens, how it felt to grow up as a multi-heritage child.
Aim of this training
- To validate, empower and amplify the voices and lived experiences of BIPOC of multi-heritage backgrounds.
- To ensure that BIPOC of multi-heritage identities are included in conversations about race.
- To share with other BIPOC of multi-heritage backgrounds perspectives that may resonate or may be new.
- To introduce and embrace diverse experiences, facilitating a deeper understanding of ourselves and others.
Who should attend this training
This workshop is for BIPOC who have a multi-heritage racial background. It is for those who want to gain greater insight into the experience of holding a multi-heritage identity, to make meaning of and find language for their young multi-heritage experience, including how young experience may still impact current ways of relating to self and others.
