Counselling and psychotherapy service in Waterloo.
Become one of our trustees
Waterloo Community Counselling (WCC) is recruiting for a number of voluntary positions to join our Board of Trustees.
Whether you are an experienced trustee or wanting to take your first step at board level, we would like to hear from you.
We are an established community counselling and psychotherapy charity based in Waterloo, South London. We provide talking therapies to our local communities in Lambeth and Southwark, and Londoners at large. Set up as part of a local health service in the 1980s, our charity initially only offered low-cost therapy to disadvantaged members of the local community.
Today we have expanded the services to a much wider client base in the general service, whilst continuing to also provide longer term low-cost counselling.
WCC has a dedicated team of counsellors who provide talking therapy in 25 different languages. The Multi-Ethnic Counselling Service (MECS) supports referrals who need to access language counselling, this includes refugees and asylum seekers who are often excluded from accessing talking therapy from statutory services.
We have a strong sense of purpose and pride. We believe in the importance of tailoring support to individual needs and improving the quality of life for all.
Who are we looking for?
WCC is passionately committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and wish to reflect these values in our Board. We are specifically looking to recruit trustees from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds. We are also interested in hearing from people who have lived experience of coming to the UK as a refugee or asylum-seeker.
We are hoping to recruit people who are sympathetic to the values of psychotherapy and counselling and to be part of the strategic thinking, planning and leadership behind a not-for-profit organisation. We are looking for new trustees willing to bring dedication and energy to the role.
Our new trustees will have skills and professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Business development
- Strategic planning
- Marketing and communication
- Reputation management
- Human Resources
What opportunities will you have as a trustee?
- Working on the charity’s strategic vision, whilst supporting its quality assurance, policies and public profile
- Making a difference to mental health services for local communities and Londoners at large
- Advancing the charity’s financial stability and fundraising
- Developing new skills and working with a wide range of committed professionals.
You will receive induction and reimbursable expenses.
What time commitment will the role require?
The Board of Trustees meet in the evenings every couple of months and hold an annual meeting with all staff. There is some ad hoc committee work in-between meetings. Meetings are currently held online, but otherwise, they take place in the WCC office in Waterloo.
