ROLE: Bereavement Support Co-Ordinator

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Patient and Family Support

SALARY BAND:   AfC Band 7 (£45,780 – £51,393pa pro-rata)

HOURS: 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week, days negotiable)

LENGTH OF TENURE: Fixed term 12 months

In order to alleviate emotional, spiritual and psychological distress, the Patient and Family Support service provides specialist support and psychosocial counselling to patients and their friends and family. We work with the people that need us throughout a patient’s illness and into bereavement.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic individual to the role of Bereavement Support Co-Ordinator on a fixed term basis. The successful candidate will work alongside staff and volunteers to provide high quality and responsive bereavement care. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• To co-ordinate and deliver NICE component 2 and 3 bereavement support to family and friends of Trinity patients

•Conduct psychosocial assessment, provide therapeutic interventions and facilitate allocation of clients to volunteers

•Provide liaison, training and support to a team of volunteers

•Ensure that families and carers are able to access short term psychological support and/or counselling services at the time of bereavement

The successful candidate will have:

• A postgraduate qualification in counselling/psychotherapy at diploma level or equivalent

• A breadth of knowledge of bereavement, grief and its complications

•Experience of working within a healthcare setting

•Knowledge of grief and loss models

•Ability to make clear assessments of people’s needs, including robust risk assessments and safeguarding assessments

•Commitment to and active participation in professional development

•A flexible approach and an ability to handle a varied workload

•Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to use own initiative
