Feeling Queer CIC is seeking a new Director
Voluntary: 8-12 hours per month
Feeling Queer CIC is a new grassroots non-profit organisation, run by and for queer people with lived experience of mental distress and trauma. FQ runs support groups for queer trauma survivors, facilitates individual peer support sessions and provides educational resources and information around trauma from the perspectives of queer people with lived experience. Feeling Queer seeks to de-pathologise distress and to view a person holistically in relational to their cumulative experiences with reference to power, identity, intergenerational trauma and oppression, rather than the dichotomous approach of diagnostic labelling.
We are looking for somebody to join our board of directors. In particular, we are seeking psychologists / psychotherapists, people who have skills and experience in setting up a non-profit or company, people who have experience in marketing, fundraising or PR, lawyers, accountants, and generally anybody who can offer us mentorship.
It is extremely important for our directors board to be intersectional and to represent a wide range of experiences and perspectives and we currently do not feel we have the racial diversity we desire on our directors board. We are particularly interested in applications from BIPOC who fulfil the above criteria.
Whilst our volunteers, paid staff and directors all identify as LGBTQ+ and have lived experience of trauma, we are open to people who do not identify in this way.
Directors are responsible for strategising the direction of the organisation, mentoring, offering advice, developing approaches for sustainability and fundraising, promoting the reputation of the company and overseeing important and big decisions for the future. The responsibility of a director is similar to that of a trustee in a charity. The position involves 8-12 hours per month work, but this is flexible and will reduce over time. Previous experience as a Director or Trustee of a charity or a CIC would be beneficial, but not essential.
It is important to FQ that Directors share our values and ideologies surrounding de-pathologising emotional distress and trauma and are anti transphobic, anti homophobic, anti racist and anti abelist.
FQ is a very friendly team who are deeply passionate about what they do and are looking for people who share the same enthusiasm for the cause.
