Workshop 4 – Working in therapy services without losing yourself or burning out

Workshop Outline

Working within a statutory, voluntary or charity therapy service can be deeply meaningful. It does, however, ask a great deal of us. This workshop will offer a reflective space to explore how therapists can stay grounded, resourced, and connected to their values while navigating the pressures of service settings. Drawing on a systems psychodynamic lens, we will consider self-care, boundaries, burnout prevention, organisational dynamics, and the ways activism and advocacy can become part of sustaining both ourselves and the communities we serve.

Ayan Ali has been practising as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist since 1994 and has been instrumental in setting up and developing counselling services for Asian Women and the national forum for Asian Counsellors.

Workshop 5 – Nature in Psychotherapy: as co-facilitator, resourcer, and form of activism.

Exploring creative ways to work with our intrinsic nature, in nature, within our professional field – for our clients, ourselves, and the global community.

Workshop Outline

An experiential inquiry and creative exploration of ways that this field of consciousness around “nature” can support our psychotherapeutic work in the moment, resource us, and provide a seemingly critical link to global activism in terms of environmental, social, cultural and economic – reflecting our own inherent interconnected human nature.

That’s a lot to achieve in 85 minutes! So there’ll be a lot of experiential, a bit of talking, some poignant examples, and some sharing using live methods to get this theme building amongst us in the group, as an emergent process within itself on the day – allowing for the wisdom that each member brings to also “in-form” us.

Samina Ali is a dance movement psychotherapist with 10 years’ experience supporting adults, young people, and communities across education, therapy, DEI, and conflict resolution.
