The BAATN Network seeks to reflect the many who are committed, passionate and actively engaged in addressing the psychological needs of black and Asian
people in the UK.

We comprise a team of 12 Clinical Associate Therapists who all have many years' experience of working with black issues and are often involved in teaching and training other therapists on these issues. Many of us have contributed to the growing body of literature about working with black and Asian clients through publishing our own research, projects or ideas. We also host the first UK directory of Black and Asian therapists which list qualified and therapists around the UK.

BAATN
was conceived for two reasons:
  • first, that most therapy training organisations in the UK fail to address 'black issues' in their curricula. This means that therapists leaving these programmes are often inadequately trained to work with black, Asian or other ethnic minority clients.
  • second, all therapists working with black, Asian or ethnic minority clients need specific training to be able to work effectively with this client group. See our Training section for more details on our continuing professional development workshops for therapists
If you are considering having some counselling or therapy, we recommend you check out your prospective therapist first, we have some questions to consider asking them here. If possible see more than one therapist and then decide who you feel best to help you.

Our Mission Statement:

To be the place for the Black and Asian public to connect with ideas and people that support their psychological health and mental fitness as well as providing information about low cost and free counselling and support for people on limited incomes.

To campain for and promote psychological services attuned to the needs of the Black and Asian community and to influence the training curriculum of trainee therapists to include 'black issues'

To provide high quality therapy services and training by people who are well placed both to empathise with the distinctive African, Caribbean and Asian experience and to verbalise that understanding.
