Ian Thompson

Ian Thompson is BACP’s Equality & Diversity Advisor. Having previously held a dual role of a School Counsellor and Diversity Co-ordinator for a local authority, Ian was presented and readily accepted an opportunity to work at the heart of the Counselling and Psychotherapy profession. The immediate challenges are influencing change and improving the accessibility of therapeutic services to disadvantaged groups. One of the many projects Ian is currently developing is setting up a framework for Counselling services and Training institutions to ensure diversity mindfulness. Ian’s motivation emanates from having a strong background in welfare rights, equity in service provision has always been a priority for him as he endeavours to ensure that Counselling and Psychotherapy Services are more culturally, ethically, morally responsive and sensitive to the needs of people from disadvantaged groups.
